The Professional Postgraduate Master’s Degree Course in Aortic Surgery – level 2 (Italian system), provides participants with a thorough and up-to-date theoretical and practical preparation in the main sectors of aortic surgery, with both open and endovascular techniques, providing them with the ability to determine the correct treatment indications in light of technical progress. The participants will be involved both in the diagnostic assessment and treatment stages. Daily practice and attendance will be verified both in the ward and in the non-invasive diagnostic laboratory and operating theatre, and finally the participants will produce an experimental dissertation.

REGULAR ASSESSMENTS AND FINAL EXAM

The assessment tests and final exam are not graded, they only offer a “pass” (with honours, where applicable), or “fail”. In the event the exam is failed, it can be repeated once only; the methods for repeating the exam, also in terms of the time frame, are laid out by the Master’s Degree course Teaching Committee

Regular Assessments

Regular learning assessments of the aortic surgery techniques shall be performed via discussion of treatment strategies and the necessary techniques and materials for selected cases.

Final Exam

Performing clinical research in Vascular Surgery, whose results must be written up in English in a format suitable for submission to a specialised international journal for publication. Participants are expected to be self-sufficient in terms of managing the research, gathering data, evaluating and discussing the results. Each participant shall be assisted by a tutor who will follow them as their research progresses and as they draft the final paper. Upon completion of the study, the participants are expected to present the results.

Final exam: ECTS-credits: 8,72 equivalent to 218 hours of preparation of the paper.

Academic prerequisites for admission:
Degree in Medicine and Surgery (old system) or Master’s Degree in Medicine and Surgery (new system), or equivalent foreign qualification recognised under current legislation. Licence to practise medicine.

In order to permit enrolment in the Master’s Degree course in Aortic Surgery to candidates in possession of a degree in Medicine and Surgery issued abroad, as well as a licence to practice in a country other than Italy, the Faculty Council may assess the suitability of the academic qualification and check that the applicant is licensed to practice medicine in their country of origin.
