DIAPOREIN is a Research Center in Metaphysics and Philosophy of Arts at the Vita-Salute San Raffaele University in Milan. The Center’s principal aim is that of comprehending present dynamics through a constant rethinking of the complex perspectives drawn by what we call “western philosophy”. To be sure, the actual situation is dominated by nihilism as background emotional tonality: and that is linked with complex challenges and profound issues of theological and political nature, which globalisation implies and forces us to deal with. However, our time is also characterised by great instability and a rapid change of tastes, whose most significant index is the phenomenon of fashion. It is against this disorienting scenario that we deem it essential to draw from the precious resources enshrined in the great metaphysical tradition – the only one that can help orientate us effectively in what is today a most intricate tangle of unresolved questions. It is precisely in order to comprehend its developments and to decipher its tendencies that we propose a precise method, founded upon the simple awareness that the fundamental issues of our civilisation may not anymore find a definitive solution. That is the reason why we have rather decided to focus upon an highly appropriate development of their aporecity (diaporein). No solution at cheap price, hence, but a continuos admixture of knowledges and a constant dialogue between different views of the world.
