The Degree Course in Psychological Sciences

Presentation

In this course, psychology is seen above all as the science which studies the functioning of thought and of the personality in both normal and pathological manifestations. The main professional objective of the course is to supply the students with specific competence in the methodology and techniques of psychological evaluation. This competence has two main applications:

a) the capacity to identify objective functional and non-functional expressions of psychic activity in the cognitive and emotive environment

b) the capacity to evaluate subjective psychic discomfort both at an individual and relational level

The psychological evaluation is therefore of use in three distinct areas:

a) in company structures, in particular regarding the management of human resources in the productive world

b) in the clinical and research environment for the psychometric evaluation of normal subjects and those affected by neurological and psychiatric diseases

c) in the field of individual and group consulting, for the planning of the intervention and the specialist type of psychological treatment to follow

The Professional Figure

This degree course has two main objectives. The first is to train a "general psychologist", or the psychometric psychologist and individual and group "counsellor". Such professional competence can be applied in the fields of education, social assistance, health and ergonomics.

The second objective is to give a solid basic preparation in the neurobiology of mental activities, in the main principles of psychology, in the general concepts of development, social and dynamic psychology. The final aim is the preparation of young researchers who will be able to face the world of advanced research where the Vita-Salute San Raffaele University distinguishes itself at an international level in fields such as neurosciences and genetics.

The figure of the operator in the psychological field prepared during the three year degree course can be inserted into the following general areas: 1) health psychology (support of psychic disorders); 2) social and communications psychology; 3) neurosciences
