Research Activity

The main field of activity of GF is translational research in neuro-oncology, with special emphasis on cancer immunology and immunotherapy and genetics and genomics of gliomas and other brain tumors.

He pioneered the use of viral vectors for gene therapy of brain tumors (Benedetti et al, Nature Medicine 2000) and was the first to introduce in Italy immunotherapy strategies for preclinical and clinical immunotherapy of glioblastomas.

He obtained a number of grants from Italian and International Agencies for his research work: MDA, AIRC, European Community, TeleThon, Italian Minister of Health, Italian Minister of Research and University.

He acted as the European Editor of Neuro-Oncology; is now in the Editorial Board of Journal of Neuro-Oncology and of Neuro-Oncology. Reviewer of the most relevant journals in his fields of research and reviewer of National and European grants.
