Dopo la laurea con lode in Medicina e Chirurgia presso l’Università degli studi di Milano, il Prof. Matteo Montorfano ha conseguito a pieni voti la specializzazione in Cardiologia presso l’Università La Sapienza di Roma. Nel 2000 è stato nominato Responsabile del laboratorio di Emodinamica e Cardiologia Interventistica dell’Ospedale San Raffaele di Milano e nel 2018 è diventato Primario della medesima Unità Operativa.

Dal punto di vista clinico, il Prof. Montorfano ha una vasta esperienza in tutti gli ambiti della cardiologia interventistica, dal trattamento percutaneo della patologia coronarica e vascolare periferica al trattamento della cardiopatia strutturale.

Dal Marzo 2023 è Professore Associato di Malattie dell’Apparato Cardiovascolare presso il Corso di Laurea in Medicina e Chirurgia dell’Università Vita-Salute San Raffaele di Milano e direttore del Master di secondo livello in Cardiologia Interventistica presso la medesima Università.

E’ coautore di oltre 450 pubblicazioni nelle riviste scientifiche più importanti di settore (tra cui Circulation, Journal of American College of Cardiology, JAMA, JACC Cardiovascular Intervention). Ad oggi i suoi lavori hanno ottenuto più di 15.000 citazioni con un H-index di 59.

Detiene numerosi brevetti internazionali ed è fondatore di due società impegnate nello sviluppo di device per il trattamento percutaneo delle valvulopatie.

Vastissima esperienza nel trattamento percutaneo della malattia coronarica, incluse lesioni complesse quali biforcazioni, occlusioni croniche totali, tronco comune non protetto, lesioni calcifiche con utilizzo di device (rotablator, laser e litotrissia intracoronarica).

 

Vastissima esperienza nel trattamento della cardiopatia strutturale : impianto percutaneo della valvola aortica (TAVI), correzione percutanea di insufficienza mitralica, chiusura percutanea di difetto interatriale (DIA) e forame ovale pervio (PFO), chiusura percutanea di auricola sinistra e di leak paravalvolari.

Attività di ricerca

Attività pioneristica nel trattamento della cardiopatia strutturale:

- Planning ed esecuzione del primo intervento al mondo di valve-in-valve mitralica per via transettale ed affinamento di tale tecnica interventistica per il trattamento di protesi mitraliche degenerate

- Sviluppo di un nuovo metodo di sizing (LIRA method) per il trattamento percutaneo della stenosi aortica in pazienti con valvola aortica bicuspide

Principal Investigator e co-investigator di numerosi studi clinici sponsorizzati e spontanei

Detentore di numerosi brevetti per il trattamento percutaneo della cardiopatia strutturale
