Ricerca (principali interessi)

– Meccanismi di controllo dell’omeostasi del ferro in cellule del sistam nervoso centrale (neuroni, astrociti e microglia)

– Ruolo del dismetabolismo del ferro e dello stress ossidativo in condizioni neurodegenerative come l’atassia di Friedreich, studiato in modelli neuronali sia murini che umani (colture primarie e neuroni derivati da         iPSC)
– Omeostasi del calcio e meccanismi di attivazione della PKC in neuroni ed astrociti, studiati tramite calcium imaging e Total Internal Reflection Microscopy

– Mechanisms of iron homeostasis in brain-derived primary cultures (neurons, astrocytes and microglia)
– Role of iron dysregulation and oxidative stress in neurodegenerative conditions, such as Friedreich’s ataxia, studied in rodent and human neuronal models (primary cultures and human iPSC-derived neurons)
– Calcium homeostasis and mechanisms of PKC activation in neurons and astrocytes, analyzed by calcium imaging and Total Internal Reflection Microscopy
