Biography
Raffaele Ariano is Assistant Professor (RTDb) in History of Philosophy at the Vita-Salute San Raffaele University of Milan, where he teaches History of Contemporary Philosophy and other courses at both the undergraduate and graduate level. His research interests include: contemporary philosophy, with a special attention to authors such as Nietzsche, James, Dewey, Wittgenstein, Foucault, Rorty, and Cavell; philosophy of culture, history of ideas, and intellectual history; film aesthetics and literary theory. He obtained the national scientific qualification for Associate professor (Abilitazione Scientifica Nazionale alle funzioni di professore universitario di Seconda Fascia nel Settore Concorsuale 11/C5 - STORIA DELLA FILOSOFIA, con validità dell’abilitazione dal 09/06/2023 al 09/06/2034). He is vice-principal investigator in the national PRIN research project Towards the History of a Heterodox Tradition in Analytic Philosophy: Transformative, Humanistic, Conversational, in collaboration with Università degli Studi Roma La Sapienza (PI: Prof. Sarin Marchetti) and Università di Torino (Prof. Paolo Tripodi).

EDUCATION:
2017: Master of Studies in Film Aesthetics at the University of Oxford (Distinction). Dissertation title: “Film as Mythobiography: Working Through the Great Mother Complex in Fellini’s La dolce vita and 8 ½”
2015: Ph.D. in Philosophy from Vita-Salute San Raffaele University of Milan.
Dissertation title: “Il libero gioco delle idee. L’immaginazione morale nel pensiero di Lionel Trilling” (“The Free Play of Ideas: The Moral Imagination in the Thought of Lionel Trilling”).

Indagine sulla filosofia di Michel Foucault” (“Death of Man and the End of the Subject. Inquiry into the Philosophy of Michel Foucault”).
2008: Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from Vita-Salute San Raffaele University of Milan (110/110 magna cum laude and special mention). Thesis title: “Nietzsche e lo stile in filosofia” (“Nietzsche and Style in Philosophy”).
