Born in Corato (Bari) , on January 01, 1954
Graduated in Medicine, University of Rome “La Sapienza” in  1979 with 110/110 cum laude.
Post-graduate in Dentistry,  University of Rome “La Sapienza” in 1983 with 70/70 cum laude.

Curriculum
•    From 1987 to 1989 is Professor of Endodontics at the Dental School of University of L’Aquila.
•    From 1989 to 1990 is Professor of Restorative Dentistry at the Dental School of University of Rome “La Sapienza”.
•    From 1991  to 1997 is Professor of Endodontics at the Dental School of University of Rome “La Sapienza”
•    From 1996 to date, cooperates to the teaching activities of the following Italian Universities: Napoli (University “ Federico II”), Roma (University “ La Sapienza”), Siena, Firenze, Foggia,Torino, Brescia, Catanzaro, Messina.
•    Since 1996 cooperates to the teaching activities of the following foreign Universities: Barcellona, Madrid e Valencia (Spain), Marsiglia (France), Vilnius (Lituania), Oporto e Braga (Portugal) , Perm, Mosca e San Pietroburgo (Russia), Plovdiv (Bulgaria), Essen (Germany), Beirut (Lebanon, State University and Saint Joseph University), Bogotà (Colombia), Guatemala City (Guatemala), Bangkok  e Chang May (Thainland), Pechino (China), Singapore, Hong Kong,  Seul (South Corea), Mumbay, Dehli e Madras (India), Melbourne (Australia), Osaka (Japan), Fort Lauerdale (Nova Southeastern University, USA), Sao Paolo and Rio de Janeiro (Brasil), Buenos Aires (Argentina), Santiago e Valparaiso (Chile) .
•    Since 1996 participates as an invited speaker at about 400 events, of which more than 230 in Italy and more than 170 in 40 different European and non-European Countries.
•    In 2000 wins the contest of Associate Professor.
•    From 2000 to 2014 is Professor at the University of Verona of the following courses: Endodontics, Restorative Dentistry, Cosmetic Dentistry.
•    From 2000 to 2013 teaches Endodontics  in the Post-Graduate Master in Endodontics organized at the University of  Verona.
•    From 2006 to date, is Director and Coordinator  of the “Master Teórico-práctico en Endodoncia Avanzada” in the  “Centro de Posgrado” at the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain.
•    In 2005 is winner of the prize for the best Research: “Estudio de la obturación del sistema de conductos con gutapercha termoplástica.” 13° Congreso Nacional y II Internacional de la SEOC (Spanish Society of Restorative Dentistry)
•    In 2009 is winner of the prize “Riccardo Garberoglio”  for the best Research: “Azione sull’enterococcus faecalis di antimicrobici su spugne a liberazione lenta.” 30° National Congress of the Italian Society of Endodontics (SIE).
•    In 2013 is winner of the prize “Francesco Riitano”  for the best oral presentation “Preparazione del glide-path: confronto tra strumenti manuali, strumenti meccanici di prima generazione e strumenti di nuova generazione in lega M-wire.”  33° National Congress of the Italian Society of Endodontics (SIE).
•    From 2006 to 2008 is President of AIOM (Italian Association of Dental Microscopy))
•    From 2008 to 2010 is President of SIE (Italian Society of Endodontists)
•    From 2008 to 2012 is President of EFAM (European Federation of Microdensistry Associations)
•    Since October 2014 is professor of Endodontics and Restorative Dentistry at the University Vita –Salute San Raffaele of Milan.

Main Research Topics
•    Investigations on viscosity, melting temperatures, flow rate, flow ability, qualitative and quantitative chemical analysis, NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance), and microleakage of dental gutta-perchas, in order to optimize their clinical use.
•    SEM Analysis of the capability of the root canal obturation materials to enter and seal the dentinal tubules.
•    SEM Studies on the ability of the  irrigating solutions used during the root canal treatment of removing the endodontic smear layer.
•    SEM Studies on the effect of the irrigating solutions on micro-hardness and resistance of residual dental structure.
•    Radiographic investigation on the frequency and location of the lateral ramifications of the root canal system. (Collaboration between the Universities  of Verona and Santiago de Compostela-Spain.)
•    Anatomical Study on the residual tickness of the root canal walls after endodontic shaping in order to identify the teeth and the roots that are more fragile and in order to suggest safer methods of restoration. (Collaboration between the Universities  of Verona and Santiago de Compostela-Spain).
•    Research on  the corrosive effects of sodium hypochlorite on nickel-titanium instruments. (Collaboration between the Universities  of Verona and Santiago de Compostela-Spain).
•    Study on the effect of the manual pre-flaring on the separation rate of greater taper Nickel-Titanium files in root canal with curvature angles greater than 30°. (Collaboration between the Universities of  Verona and Santiago de Compostela-Spain).
•    Study on the effect of reciprocating movement on the separation rate of several types of greater taper Nickel-Titanium files. (Collaboration between the Universities  of Verona and Santiago de Compostela-Spain).
•    Study on the effect of antimicrobial agents  slowly released from microsponges on the  survival rate of enterococcus faecalis. (Collaboration between the Universities  of Verona and Santiago de Compostela-Spain).
•    Effects of surface treatments (electro-polishing and electro deposition of titanium nitride) on the resistance to both torsional and fatigue stresses of the rotary Nickel-Titanium files. (Collaboration between the Universities  of Verona. Catania and di Mu¨nster –Germany).
•    Design and development of ultrasonic tips with a new longitudinal micro-blade design. (Collaboration between the Universities  of Verona and Turin).
•    Design and development of a new endodontic instruments for preflaring and glide-path of the root canals. Effect of their usage on the complication rate during the root canal instrumentation. (Collaboration between the Universities  of Verona and Turin).
•    Prospective “in vivo” Study on the effects of manual and mechanical preflaring and glide-path on the frequency of post endodontic treatment pain. (Collaboration between the Universities  of Verona and Turin).
•    Micro-CT Analysis on the effects of different protocols of root canal instrumentation on the root canal anatomy.  (Collaboration between the Universities  of Verona and Turin).
