Maria Vittoria Cicinelli, MD, FEBO, is an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Università Vita-Salute San Raffaele, Milan, Italy, a position she has held since 2021. She is also a clinician–scientist at the IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele.
 
She completed her residency training in Ophthalmology at Università Vita-Salute San Raffaele and subsequently pursued an international fellowship in Medical Retina and Uveitis at Northwestern University (Chicago, USA). Her clinical and research focus lies in medical retina, uveitis, and multimodal retinal imaging, with a particular emphasis on imaging biomarkers and disease phenotyping.  
 
Dr. Cicinelli is the recipient of several competitive international awards, including the ICO-Allergan Fellowship (2020), the Macula Society Research Grant (2023), and the American Academy of Ophthalmology Secretariat Award (2023).  
 
She has authored more than 250 peer-reviewed publications indexed in PubMed, with an h-index >40 and over 13,000 citations, reflecting a strong and sustained scientific impact.

She is Editor-in-Chief of the American Journal of Ophthalmology International and serves as Associate Editor or Editorial Board member for multiple international journals. In addition, she is actively involved in major scientific societies, including Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, EURETINA, and the Macula Society.

Dr. Cicinelli is also the editor of the book “Ultra Widefield Imaging of the Retina” (Elsevier, 2025). She obtained the Italian National Scientific Qualification for Associate Professor in 2020 and is actively engaged in mentoring medical students, residents, and fellows.
