Short narrative
Raphael Ebgi obtained a M.D. degree from Vita-Salute San Raffaele University in Milan, Italy, followed by a Ph.D. in Metaphysics from the same University. He was then appointed as Research Associate at the Jewish Institute of the Freie Universität, Berlin, and as Scientific Collaborator at the Università della Svizzera Italiana in Lugano. Now he is Associate Professor in History of Philosophy at the Vita-Salute San Raffaele University, Milan, where he teaches «Humanistic and Renaissance Culture and Civilization», «History of Italian Thought», and «Jewish Culture». He taught «Humanistic and Renaissance Literature» from 2020 to 2022. In 2020 he was awarded the National Scientific Qualification (ASN) as Full Professor in History of Philosophy.
His main research interest lies in the Philosophy of Renaissance Humanism, with a special focus on the interplay between religious, literary, artistic and metaphisical themes in the works of Marsilio Ficino and Pico della Mirandola. In this area, he has published many articles in international Journals, and several volumes for important publishing houses, such as Einaudi, the Edizioni della Normale, Bompiani. He has also worked on the impact of Renaissance Humanism on Italian and European cultural history, as well as on the encounter between the Humanistic tradition and Jewish mysticism.
He presented at numerous national and international conferences organized by, among others, the following institutions: Scuola Normale di Pisa, Axel and Margaret Ax:son Johnson Foundation in Stockholm, Freie Universität Berlin, Institute of Renaissance Studies in Florence, Institute of Renaissance Studies in Ferrara, University of Texas at Austin, Kent State University Florence.
He has been appointed by the Scientific Committee for the “Edizione Nazionale delle Opere di Giovanni Pico della Mirandola” as one of the editors of the “900 Conclusiones”, and of the “Disputationes adversus astrologiam divinatricem”.
