Attività di Ricerca

- Ricerca Cardiovascolare, Clinica e Traslazionale

Progettazione e sviluppo di innovativi tools diagnostici per la predizione e minimizzazione del rischio di insorgenza di complicanze post-operatorie in pazienti riceventi dispositivi per il Supporto Meccanico alla Circolazione (Mechanical Circulatory Support, MCS). La Ricerca è svolta in collaborazione con l’U.O. di Terapia Intensiva Cardiochirurgica, l’U.O. di Terapia Intensiva Coronoarica e l’Unità di Ricerca Trombosi dell’IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele (Prof. Alberto Zangrillo, Prof. Federico Pappalardo, Dr. Armando D’Angelo) all’interno del Programma d Insufficienza Cardiaca Avanzata e Supporto Meccanico alla Circolazione del San Raffaele.

Le attività di ricerca si basano sull’integrazione di diversi approcci e metodologie, tra i quali:

ž valutazione paziente-specifica dell’emodinamica intraventricolare mediante tecniche non invasive

ž analisi dei parametri di funzionamento dei dispositivi per MCS (log files) e valutazione dell’interazione fisiopatologica paziente-dispositivo

ž studio e valutazione del danno indotto da shear stress sulle cellule del sangue

ž caratterizzazione in vivo dell’attivazione piastrinica indotta da shear stress e dell’associata attività protrombotica

ž ottimizzazione e personalizzazione dei regimi terapeutici e farmacologici

Research Interests and Activities

- Cardiovascular Clinical and Translational Research

Design and development of innovative diagnostic tools for the prevention of post-operative adverse events in patients implanted with Mechanical Circulatory Support (MCS) devices. Research activities are pursued in collaboration with the Anesthesia and Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit, the Coronary Intensive Care Unit, and the Coagulation Service and Thrombosis Research Unit of the San Raffaele Scientific Institute (Prof. Alberto Zangrillo, Prof. Federico Pappalardo, Dr. Armando D’Angelo) in the framework of the Advanced Heart Failure and Mechanical Circulatory Support Program of the San Raffaele Scientific Institute.

Research activities combine different approaches and methodologies, including:

ž patient-specific evaluation of the ventricular hemodynamics

ž analysis of the MCS system operating conditions (log-files) and evaluation of the patient-device physiological interplay

ž study and evaluation of blood cells shear-mediated damage

ž in vivo characterization of shear mediated platelet activation and prothrombotic activity

ž patient-tailored optimization of antithrombotic therapeutic regimen
