Brief Biography

After earning her degree in Medicine and Surgery and specializing in Radiology, Professor Palmisano obtained a PhD in Molecular Medicine. She worked at the Complex Operative Unit of Radiology at the IRCCS San Raffaele Hospital in Milan, focusing primarily on advanced imaging with Computed Tomography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging. She participated in and coordinated numerous studies aimed at developing new advanced imaging techniques for tissue characterization, early risk biomarkers identification, and prognostic stratification in the cardiovascular, oncological, and transplant fields, both in clinical and preclinical setting, thanks to collaboration with the Preclinical Imaging Facility at IRCCS San Raffaele. She currently coordinates and collaborates on numerous artificial intelligence projects in partnership with the AI-hub Center of Excellence at the Vita-Salute San Raffaele University. She has published in prestigious international scientific journals such as Radiology, European Radiology, JACC, JACC CVI, Circulation, and The Lancet.

Clinical Activities

Since 2016, she has specialized in clinical activities at the Complex Operative Unit of Radiology at the IRCCS San Raffaele Hospital in Milan. Over these years, she has gained extensive experience in many areas of body imaging, from Ultrasound to Magnetic Resonance, and Computed Tomography, dedicating the recent years mainly to cardiovascular, oncological, musculoskeletal imaging, and emergency radiology with the application and implementation of advanced imaging techniques.

 

Research Activities

Author and co-author of 137 scientific works in clinical and preclinical fields published in peer-reviewed journals with an overall H index of 28, her main research lines include:

  • Development of acquisition protocols and image analysis with advanced CT and MRI imaging techniques in ischemic heart disease, especially inflammatory cardiomyopathies, and oncological imaging
  • Identification of new biomarkers for early diagnosis, prognostic stratification, and treatment response with advanced imaging techniques in cardiovascular and metabolic fields
  • Identification of biomarkers for risk stratification and treatment response in oncology, also with radiomics and texture analysis
  • Applications of artificial intelligence in the field of imaging and multiomics
  • Preclinical and translational research in cardiovascular, metabolic, musculoskeletal, and oncological diseases

She has organized and supported the organization of national and international congresses in the field of cardiac radiology. Invited speaker at numerous national and international congresses (RSNA, ESCR, SIRM, ECR).

Principla investigator for several projects funded through competitive grants, the most recent being in 2023-2024:
