Breakin' Science

The laboratory experiences and the direct encounter with the researchers are essential to understand the science which, before being a set of knowledge, is also a way of thinking and looking at the world. This is why the Vita-Salute San Raffaele University, in collaboration with IRCCS San Raffaele Hospital, proposes every year to the schools in the Milan area various dissemination and scientific education activities to experience the world of research: from genetics to neuroscience, up to to cutting-edge health technologies.

Among our proposals:

  • Discovering cells and DNA. A laboratory lesson to discover the basic principles of human cell biology, extract DNA from the cells of the mouth, analyze them by electrophoresis and look at cells and tissues under a microscope.
  • Fluoresc(i)ence! A colorful world to look at with lights out. An exciting and curious journey into the world of fluorescence to see how widespread it is in nature and in everyday objects, and to understand how scientists use it in many areas of biomedical research.
  • Escape Lab. An escape room set in a biomedical laboratory. A fun way to convey theoretical and practical notions on the use of tools and the main laboratory methods, to promote teamwork and the enhancement of the abilities of each one.
