Biography

Claudia Bianchi is Full Professor at the Philosophy Faculty of the University Vita-Salute San Raffaele. She teaches Philosophy of Language (undergraduate course), and Communication and Cognition (graduate course). Over the years she has been a Board member of the SIFA (Italian Society for Analytic Philosophy, 2000-2004) and of the SFL (Italian Society for Philosophy of Language, 2004-2006 and 2013-2016). At present she is a Board member of the Interfaculty centre for gender studies, a member of the Scientific Board of the Center for Experimental and Applied Epistemology (CRESA), and of the Editorial Board of the journals Epistemologia and Lato Sensu, revue de la Société de philosophie des sciences.

 

She obtained a degree in Philosophy with honours at the Department of Philosophy in the University of Milan in 1991, a “Certificat de Spécialisation en Philosophie” at the Université de Genève in 1993 and a Ph. D. in Epistemology at the CREA – École Polytechnique, Paris, in 1999. She was Research Fellow in the Department of Philosophy of the University of Genova (2001-2004), Researcher in Theoretical Philosophy (2004-2006), and then Associate Professor in Philosophy of Language at the Philosophy Faculty of the University Vita-Salute San Raffaele (2007-2015).

 

She has written many articles and reviews in Italian, French and English that have appeared in journals, edited books and conference proceedings. She has published three books, edited a further one, and co-edited two more. Her latest authored work is Pragmatica cognitiva. I meccanismi della comunicazione (Laterza, Roma-Bari 2009), and the most recent edited books are The Semantics/Pragmatics Distinction (Stanford, CSLI, 2004) and Filosofia della comunicazione (Roma-Bari, Laterza, 2005, with Nicla Vassallo).

She works in the field of Analytic Philosophy. Her main research interest lies in the field of Philosophy of Language and Pragmatics. Other research interests include Epistemology and Feminist Philosophy of Language.

 

She is a referee for many international journals including Australasian Journal of Philosophy, Dialectica, Erkenntnis, Journal of Philosophy, Journal of Pragmatics, Linguistics and Philosophy, Mind and Language, Philosophical Studies, Rivista di Estetica, Rivista di Filosofia, Sistemi Intelligenti, Synthese, and for Oxford University Press.
