Short description:

Claudia Bianchi (Ph.D. at École Polytechnique, Paris) is Full Professor at the Philosophy Faculty of the University Vita-Salute San Raffaele, Milan. She teaches Pragmatics (undergraduate course), Gender Studies, and Communication and Cognition (graduate course).

Education:

She obtained a degree in Philosophy with honours at the Department of Philosophy in the University of Milan in 1991, a "Certificat de Spécialisation en Philosophie" at the Université de Genève in 1993 and a Ph. D. in Epistemology at the CREA - École Polytechnique, Paris, in 1998. She was Research Fellow in the Department of Philosophy of the University of Genova (2001-2004), Researcher in Theoretical Philosophy (2004-2006), and then Associate Professor in Philosophy of Language at the Philosophy Faculty of the University Vita-Salute San Raffaele (2007-2015).

 

Current and previous positions:

At present, she is a member of the Scientific Board of the CRESA (Center for Experimental and Applied Epistemology) and of the Interfaculty centre for gender studies. Over the years she has been a Board member of the SIFA (Italian Society for Analytic Philosophy, 2000-2004) and of the SFL (Italian Society for Philosophy of Language, 2004-2006 and 2013-2016).

 

Research interests:

Her main research interests are in the field of Philosophy of Language, Pragmatics and Feminist Philosophy of Language. In particular, she works on hate speech, slurs and discursive injustice.

She has written many articles and reviews in Italian, French and English that have appeared in journals, edited books and conference proceedings. She has published four books, edited a further one, and co-edited two more. Her latest authored work is Hate speech. Il lato oscuro del linguaggio, Roma-Bari, Laterza (2021).
