Master’s Degree in Rehabilitation Science for Healthcare Professionals

Master’s Degree in Rehabilitation Science for Healthcare Professionals

The Master’s Degree in Rehabilitation Science for Healthcare Professionals offered by Vita-Salute San Raffaele University was introduced to satisfy the increasingly pressing demands to improve the health and quality of life of the elderly. The aim is to train healthcare professionals able to meet this need with the best possible not only clinical but also technological and methodological know-how.

As a result of the multidisciplinary approach required for the management of elderly subjects, health services increasingly expect sector professionals to
possess both the skills that typically characterise the job description and those of a methodological nature and they are also required in order to interact with
the other healthcare professionals that, particularly in the care of elderly subjects, are called on to acts as a multidisciplinary team.

Today’s three-year Healthcare Professions Bachelor’s degrees strive to train professionals able to meet the demands and evolution of the Health setting in
which they work; however, the complex nature of demands in this sector, the speed of technological evolution and the changes in operational settings, require professionals to possess ever-greater specialisation.

Our Master’s degree in Rehabilitation Science for Healthcare Professionals was originally designed as an expression of the development of needs in this
sector, by creating a specialised, vocational course in order to train professionals able to manage patients of all ages with complex medical conditions, by drawing on professional know-how, expertise in the scientific method and technological skills.

Objectives

The Master’s degree in Rehabilitation Science for Healthcare Professionals offered by Vita-Salute San Raffaele University strives to provide in-depth clinical, methodological, technological and teaching skills in order to produce Master’s graduates able to manage and provide the most up-to-date techniques for the rehabilitation of elderly patients.

Through the partnerships that are already in place between the three-year Bachelor’s degree in Physiotherapy and a number of international translational and clinical research institutions, students will be provided with consolidated current knowledge and know-how.

These partnerships are highly innovative both for Italy and the international scenario and, over the years, have generated a number of scientific publications on functional neuroimaging, the physiology of muscle pain and outcome measurements in projects using stem cells to treat degenerative muscle diseases.

Why study at UniSR?

This two-year programme is designed to train students able to manage and provide, with professional expertise and skill, the most modern techniques used for the rehabilitation of elderly patients. Students will acquire the expertise needed to measure outcomes and to plan, manage, analyse, statistically interpret and assess clinical trials and observational studies in the various fields of healthcare. This cultural baggage will be acquired through both lectures and seminars and the clinical internship, the training initiative that takes place during the second year of the Course, primarily in the units of IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele in Milan, under the guidance of expert tutors.

The multidisciplinary approach

The first year of the Course will focus on current trends in the rehabilitation of elderly patients from a multidisciplinary standpoint, also considering the areas of
rehabilitation that are assisted by cutting-edge technologies, such as robotics and virtual reality used to assist therapeutic exercises.
