On December 12th and 13th, at the Karolinska University Hospital in the Stockholm County, the EUCARE project was officially launched: a three-year initiative with the primary goal of providing a fellowship program for critical care nurses across all EUHA partner hospitals.

The EUHA (European University Hospital Alliance), of which San Raffaele Hospital is a co-founding member, is the alliance of European university hospitals formed by the union and commitment of ten European hospitals with proven excellence in healthcare, education, and research.

San Raffaele Hospital is the only Italian co-founding hospital, and together with other members, collaborates to improve patients' lives, enhance the quality of care, and promote best practices, excellence, and innovation in healthcare, research, and education at the European level.

The EUCARE project

The EUCARE program involves on-the-field training, workshops, as well as theoretical lessons, aiming to enable nurses to acquire advanced and specific skills in care, particularly during emergency situations, with a particular focus on pandemics.

The spread of Covid-19 has highlighted the crucial role of nurses in crisis management and recovery phases, emphasizing the need for thorough preparation of healthcare personnel.

Addressing the shortage of specialized Nurses in Critical Areas

The pandemic has highlighted a shortage of specialized nurses in critical areas, underscoring the vulnerability of our healthcare systems.

This has become a concern for EUHA, which has chosen to act swiftly in this direction, promoting an innovative approach and the establishment of a European network of nursing professionals specialized in critical patient care, thanks to the EUCARE project.

Active international collaboration among nursing professionals will enable them to maintain continuous professional interactions and prepare to operate beyond national borders.

The Active Involvement of Vita-Salute San Raffaele University in the Academic Training of Nurses

OSR and UniSR, through their close bond and dedication to scientific excellence in the healthcare field, consistently collaborate internationally to establish networks and projects, such as EUCARE, aimed at improving global education, research, and therapies.

Furthermore, in line with the mission of excellence and innovation, Vita-Salute San Raffaele University plays a crucial role in the academic training of nurses. Through its three-year undergraduate, master's (Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, Master's Degree in Nursing and Midwifery), and postgraduate programs (Master's in Advanced Care for Critical Patients), the university prepares numerous students with advanced skills and a comprehensive perspective in the field of healthcare.

Comprehensive academic training not only provides the foundation for a career in healthcare professions but also offers the opportunity for nursing professionals to pursue specialized paths, developing invaluable skills in emergency situations (pandemics, disasters, armed conflicts), as promoted by the EUCARE project.
