On 30th March 2017, Vita-Salute San Raffaele University will host Professor Vedran Podobnik, Social Networking and Computing Laboratory (http://sociallab.science), from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, University of Zagreb (Croatia).
The Seminar is organized by Professor Clelia Di Serio, Full Professor (permanent position) in medical statistics and epidemiology at Vita-Salute San Raffaele University; subject of the talk will be “People, Machines, and Organizations in the Age of (Social) Networks”.
We live in a networked society where everything is inter-connected. By 2020 there will be 8 billion people and 50 billion machines in the world and majority of them will be connected through some kind of (social) network. Furthermore, people and machines that share a certain collective goal will be grouped into some kind of organization, which again will be connected with other organizations and/or people/machines. In order to maintain sustainability of the networked society we need mechanisms which will enable us to (i) understand; and (ii) manage interactions in such a complex eco-system consisting of thousands, millions or even billions of interconnected entities. This talk will firstly explain the role and impact (social) networks have on society and business today. Afterwards, several specific examples – from domains of politics and sports – on how (social) network analytics provides us tools to better understand a complex world around us will be presented. The talk will conclude with few propositions how (social) networking might look like in the future.
